The Life Programme - Low impact class.

I unfortunately suffered really bad health in 2015 - COPD and anxiety.

Part of my recovery plan was to keep active.

I was recommended to attend the class held weekly at our local community hall in Whickham. 

Linda has been attending for well over a year and it has really helped both  physically and mentally. 

I have met a great bunch of people of all ages and abilities and has been made most welcome.

Low Impact Exercise Class    

I read  on Facebook about a new class starting at my local community centre which was for Over 50's. It sounded just right for me as I was 65 at the time and not doing any exercise at all. I started going to the classes in February 2017 and I love it.

The classes are excellent.  Emma - our friendly  instructor is very good.  She is encouraging and supportive at all times.  Everyone goes at their own pace and can sit out an exercise if they want.  Most of the people who attend my class are older than me and the exercises are suitable for all age groups.

The main reason I joined the classes was that I have arthritis in both knees.  I have been told that I need knee replacements.  However I am trying to wait as long as possible before going down that route. The exercises I do really seem to help with strengthening my knees and I find I don't get as much pain as I did before starting the classes. I also feel as though my general mobility has improved.

Another great thing is that the exercises can be done at home too.  I often find myself doing one of the moves whilst listening to a song on the radio.  Or doing one of the exercises while the adverts are on when I'm watching TV.  

I would recommend this class to anyone over 50 who feels they might benefit from some easy, fun exercise with a group of friendly people in the same age group.  ( Its mostly ladies but there are a couple of men too.)  You don't need to wear fancy gym  kit - just something comfortable.  

The session lasts 45 mins, its not strenuous, you go at your own pace and at the end you might feel a bit tired - but energised at the same time.  

Give it a try - you will enjoy it I'm sure.

It is a pleasure to tell about the Life class that I attend at Whickham Community Centre.

I have been going there since the second week and have been sad on the rare occasion when I have had to miss.

There are many of us and enjoy this time together and more are joining.

It is lovely how we all look out for each other.

We even have a few men who have dared to come along but they all seem to enjoy it.

I have skeletal problems which benefit from gentle exercise and help me move more freely.

Emma, our instructor, is lovely and caring.

She is very encouraging and knows where we each need a little prompting.

The programme is varied so we don’t get stale.

I would recommend anyone to join.

I Nursed my husband at home for 9 months which led to me not getting out very often. We had carers three times a day.

My Husband died suddenly and I was left with just visits from my family. I'd lost my confidence going out.

I also needed a knee replacement which was told I needed to lose weight for and had to do gentle exercise.

I Saw a message on Facebook from Richie and new I wouldn't go to a class as that would be taking my self out of everything safe sitting in the house.

I got in touch about 1-1 coaching.

Richie arrived at set time and date. We talked for first session about me and what goals I wanted to achieve and how he could help me get back to being me. 

For the first few weeks as he came to the house I had every excuse why I wasn't able to do any training. 

I thought my main issue was my weight but after talking to Richie I realised that I actually just wanted to have a better quality of life for my self and to get back to being the sociable person I once was. 

8 weeks later I'm going out more, have few new hobbies and I'm back Volunteering at the local community centre with I love.

Still trying hard with a healthy diet but as I'm happier in my self my weight is less of an issue.

I met him today for a walk in wind and rain thought we would cancel.

We don't do cancel or can't anymore.

Having someone to listen to you outside of your family is such a great thing. I kept telling family I was fine. Richie gave me so much encouragement and praise.

I've just had my 70 birthday booked three small holidays and he keeps saying it's my time now and not to waste my life.
